[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Environment Minister Cho Myoung-rae held a policy meeting with Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang-seon, Yeoju Mayor Lee Hang-jin, Dangjin Mayor Kim Hong-jang and Seosan Mayor Maeng Jung-ho at the Sejong Government Complex on January 13 to discuss ways to cooperate between the central and local areas to cope with fine dust. 

The main topics discussed at the policy meeting included wide-ranging management of emission source areas, the establishment of effective measures for regions and the need to reduce coal-fired power generation. 

The mayors suggested that the government-led aggressive reduction project should be carried out as high concentrations of fine dust are frequent within the Southern Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongnam-do. 

The mayors also raised the necessity of improving the accuracy of the fine dust emission statistics in the region and establishing effective fine dust countermeasures according to the characteristics of the region. 

The Minister and the mayors reached a consensus on the need to reduce coal generation to reduce fine dust and reduce greenhouse gases.
