[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment announced that the first UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Adaptation Week will be held from April 8 to 12 in Incheon.

Hosted by the Ministry of Environment, the Adaptation Week is organized by UNFCCC, the Incheon Metropolitan City and the Korea Adaptation Centre for Climate Change (KACCC).

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report published in 2014, adaptation to climate change means that all countries take appropriate actions or attitudes in response to climate and climate impacts, mitigate or avoid damage, or use a given opportunity to lead to positive outcomes.

The Adaptation Week was designed to raise international interest in adapting to climate change as the damage from climate change increases, and to bring experts from around the world together to find a solution to the problem.

The event consists of four major programs, including the National Adaptation Plans (NAP) Expo, the Adaptation Forum and the Regional Technical Expert Meeting on Adaptation.

“The UNFCCC Adaptation Week is a very meaningful event where global climate change experts come together to discuss all areas of adaptation-related policies, technologies and industries at the time when the damage caused by climate change is realizing,” Environment Minister Cho Myung-rae said.
