[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Forest Service, ahead of the 74th Arbor Day, announced its plan to plant 50 million trees in 21,000 hectares, which is 74 times the area of Mount Namsan in Seoul this year.

The tree planting plan for 2019 established by the Korea Forest Service includes creating short-term income and high added-value by cultivating forest resources suitable for local characteristics.

It also plans to carry out reforestation projects in 4,000 hectares, including the restoration of the affected areas by forest fires and pine wilt disease in order to improve the public interest of forest.

Starting from this year, the government will create 4,000 hectares of fine dust reduction forests in the outskirts of the city and 60 hectares of fine dust barrier forests around major dust sources such as industrial complexes in order to reduce the pain of the people due to fine dust.

“We plan to cultivate economically and ecologically healthy forest resources and build a foundation for sustainable forest management through various tree planting,” the head of the Korea Forest Service said.
